If you are like me you don’t want your Windows 10 computer listening to everything you say. Microsoft built a voice activated ‘assistant’ that is really a way for them to gather more voice intel and try and win back more of the voice activated search market from Google who currently controls almost 90% of any kind of search traffic.
They built a took called “Hey Cortana” that allows a user to ask their computer for help. Unfortunately use of this tool is granting all other kinds of permissions that are a little too spy tech for comfort. The good news is it is easy to switch it off.
Step 1) Click the windows logo in the lower left of your screen.
Step 2) Click the setting gear icon
Step 3) Click the ‘Cortana’ option under the Windows settings screen.
Step 4) Click the switch so that it says ‘Off’ under the first option which should be “Hey Cortana”
Step 5) Click the switch under the Lock Screen option that says “Use Cortana even when my device is locked.
Step 6) Click the X in the upper right corner to close the settings window. You should be all set with a disabled Cortana.
